Crazy Danish Apples! (Crazy Swedish Apples, part II)
For those rare few of you who have some how not noticed a long dialog going on in the comments of a month-old post, Spidra and I have been discussing Scandinavian apple cultivars. In the course of this, I came across this page, for the Royal Veterinary & Agricultural University Pometum in Denmark. "Pometum" is a pretty nifty word, one that I intend to use more often in the future, if it proves possible to do so without sounding too intolerably pretentious. It means (to quote the website): "a collection of cultivars of fruit trees and bushes", and the website has lists and descriptions of the university's collection (not just apples...lots of fruits, pretty much anything major you could reasonably grow in Denmark). The really good stuff, however, is available only in the Danish version. Instead of just lists of cultivars, the Danish version has more info, including synonyms, pictures, and background info. I don't know Danish, but I can fake it enough to figure much of it out.
