Hi there! Just came across this blog. I'm an amateur fruit grower in San Francisco, but hail from the small town of Paw Paw, Michigan. Have you heard of it? This little tidbit of history, from Wikikpedia:
'Paw Paw is named for the pawpaw trees which once grew along the Paw Paw River. However, the pawpaw trees are less common at present due to the clearing of the shade trees that pawpaws require. An experimental planting of pawpaw trees on the high school grounds failed to flourish due to its location in an open, sunny field.'
Pretty sad, but I guess its the story of the world. And believe it or not, I've never had a pawpaw fruit, and now its my mission to discover my 'roots' and eat one! Great blog.
Greetings! I would love to acquire a few seed or small seedlings. 4 or 5 at the most. We are starting a small farm and we acquired and planted about a dozen paw paws the first year we were here. Unfortunately, they all died. Partially due to the drought. Anyway, since then, our original and affordable supply source (North Carolina Forestry Service) has since discontinued paw paw. The other sources I have located just want way more than I can afford. Can you point me in a positive direction?
